Whistler trip
Sawyer went on his first Whistler trip over President's Day weekend. He was a great little traveler on the 5 hour drive up. He sat in a restaurant high chair for the first time instead of his carseat and he thought that was pretty great. Sadly there wasn't much snow in the village so I entertained Sawyer in the hotel room most of the time. Sawyer had no interest testing out his new snow pants in the snow that was around or in walking around the village shopping for that matter. Oh well, maybe next year. Luckily there was lots of new snow on the mountain and Hani got in two days of great skiing.

I love splashing!
I took Sawyer to the Mountlake Terrace Pool today and who knew we had a little swimmer on our hands. We met a few friends from PEPS, Jennifer with Beavanni, and Michaela with Vera. I started Sawyer out in the little floaty toy but he kept leaning forward and drinking the water. Eventually he laid back and played with a tiny beach ball. He was all smiles even though he was pretty short on naps today. Then I decided to take him out and try "swimming". He demonstrated how he could splash, and he immediately copied me. He got really excited and kept splashing and moving his legs as if he was crawling in the water for the next 30 minutes. We stayed so long the lifeguard had to kick us out. I was really surprised because the first two months of Sawyer's life he screamed through his baths. We realized he was much calmer showering with Hani, so he hasn't had a bath for months. Apparently he has abandoned his newborn apprehension of the water and is ready to go full force. I think we are going to have get him to the tub and fast!
Sawyer was baptized at St. Benedicts!
Last Sunday was a really special day for the Saliba family. Sawyer was baptized! Grammy came up to be part of the celebration as well as his Godparents Brian and Emily Timm. It was a fun weekend, with the exception of Grammy getting sick ( and I am pretty sure Sawyer gave it to her on their day off together). The sun was out and we even walked to church without jackets. Kind of crazy for February! Sawyer was very calm during mass, and didn't seemed to mind when we stripped him down to his birthday suit and wrapped him in a towel. Five other babies went first, and then when it was Sawyer's turn Hani held him waist deep in the font and Father Steve poured water over his head. Sawyer didn't cry or fuss, he seemed curious about what was going on. After his dip, Father blessed him with holy oil, that he still smells like almost a week later, even after multiple showers. Then I changed Sawyer into his baptism outfit and he promptly fell asleep in my arms and slept through the rest of mass. No one really got to see him in his cute sweater. Oh well, he needed his nap. After the baptism we had lots of friends over for a small Lebanese feast. Hani made chicken and hummus, and I had made Teta's spinach triangles and zataar manouche. I also made a lovely white cake with peaches, kiwis, and blackberries. Too bad Sawyer isn't quite old enough for cake.
The Vitons, the Grays, the Bathiches, the Griffins, the Powells, the Timms, the Ollos', and the Erlandsons were all in attendance. It was a great party.

Roots of Empathy
Sawyer visited Mrs. Jackson first grade classroom on Tuesday. This was his 4th visit, and so much fun, because it was the first time he could get himself around and go explore the kids. He loved their shoes, especially all the ones with velcro, and of course the kids couldn't stop opening and closing the velcro trying to see who he would crawl to next. They love that he is on the move!
Cradle robbing
Sawyer hadn't seen Nala in over 6 weeks, and decided she should be done with her nap. We had a fun play date with her. Nala sits up all by herself now, and Sawyer can army crawl, so they were showing off their new talents to each other.
Crossing the border
Sawyer got to test out his passport for the first time at a border crossing last week. We headed north to Vancouver for the weekend to meet up with amu Sam while he was in town for a convention. We had dinner at a nice Lebanese place and Sawyer was a very gracious dinner guest. He was so quiet and he had so much fun playing with amu Sam. I think Sam was really missing his kids, because he was very snuggly with Sawyer. On Sunday we headed over to introduce Sawyer to his second cousins; Maya, Mark and Leila. We had a nice brunch, and some yummy banana bread. It was a short visit, but it was nice to catch up. Sawyer had lots of fun army crawling around, exploring their non-baby proofed house. He wore himself out and slept all the way home. What a good little traveler.
